Mahesh Sankaran

Profile

I joined the University as a Lecturer in 2006.  I obtained my PhD from Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY, USA in 2001.  From 2001-2002, I was a post-doctoral researcher at the Centre for Population Biology, Silwood Park, Imperial College UK.  Following this, I worked as a Research Scientist at the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory (NREL) at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO, USA from 2002 - 2006.

Research interests

My reserch examines:

  • How interactions and feedbacks between climate, biogeochemistry, fires and herbivory influence the structure, composition and stability of savanna ecosystems worldwide.
  • How projected changes in climate such as increasing variability of rainfall, increased frequency of droughts, nitrogen and phosphorus deposition and rising CO2 will impact savanna function, stability and services.
