About your course
Why did you choose to come to Leeds University to study the above course?
I applied to a few universities for similar courses, but the Leeds course stood out as being more practical and varied than the others. It was also much easier to tailor to my interests, as most of the modules are optional.
What did you enjoy about your course?
I enjoy the practicality of the course and the variety of subjects covered. One day we’ll be out on the moors doing transects, the next in a lab or computer class.
What have been the highlights of the course?
I stayed in the Yorkshire Dales with the National Trust for 5 days in October. It was great to learn first-hand from professionals in the industry, as well as being really enjoyable to learn in such a beautiful environment.
What was your greatest challenge throughout your course?
I found learning to use GIS very difficult, as it was completely new to me. However, I’m now much more comfortable using the software and I’m sure it will be useful in the future.
About the University
Why did you choose the University of Leeds?
The thought that the course sounded the best for the subject I wanted to study. I also have friends and family who have studied here who spoke very highly of the university.
How have the facilities (libraries/labs etc.) helped you get the most out of your degree?
All the labs and libraries are well equipped. I have found the postgraduate section of the Edward Boyle library to be particularly useful when I need somewhere quiet to work.
What key aspects of your experience of Leeds would you highlight to students thinking about coming do the same course?
One of my favourite things about Leeds is its proximity to the countryside. It’s really easy to get to the Yorkshire Dales for walking and casual ecology.
What are your ambitions for the future?
I am planning to study for a PhD after this course and pursue a career in research. The careers centre has been very helpful in organising a mock interview for me.
