Dr Oliver Price

Profile

Dr Oliver Price is an Associate Professor in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Leeds and an Honorary Research Fellow in Respiratory Medicine at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. He completed doctoral research in exercise and respiratory physiology (Newcastle) and postdoctoral training in cardiovascular physiology (London), before moving to Leeds, where he established his independent research group.

Research in the Price Lab addresses several interrelated themes, including: diagnosing and managing exertional breathlessness; understanding ventilatory limitations to exercise tolerance; identifying treatable traits to inform personalised management of chronic airways disease; preventing respiratory muscle weakness in ageing and clinical populations; and applying wearable technologies and digital biomarkers to support the early detection and monitoring of lung disease.

Oliver has secured competitive funding from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), Asthma + Lung UK, and pharmaceutical industry partners to support a programme of applied, clinical, and translational respiratory research, alongside the training and development of early-career researchers. He is regularly invited to speak at national and international conferences and has chaired two expert task forces commissioned by the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), producing consensus position statements addressing the diagnosis and management of exercise-related allergic and respiratory disorders, and the practicalities of personalised exercise prescription in the context of asthma management.

Oliver is an elected member of the EAACI Asthma Section Board and former Chair of the EAACI Allergy, Asthma and Sport Working Group (2022–2026). He is a European Respiratory Society (ERS) International Research Fellowship recipient and an active member of ERS Assembly 1 – Respiratory Clinical Care and Physiology. His broader professional roles include expert membership of the International Olympic Committee Respiratory Sub-Group, Associate Editor of Physiological Reports, and Steering Committee member of the Leeds Movement and Physical Activity Interdisciplinary Research Network.
