Research interests

I am an Associate Professor in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Leeds. I established and currently lead the pulmonary exercise physiology research group – which comprises of a multidisciplinary team of human physiologists, respiratory physicians, and healthcare scientists, who collaborate to improve the lives of people in whom respiratory limitation and exercise intolerance is a major symptom. The specific aims of the lab are two-fold; first, to optimise the diagnosis and management of exercise-induced breathing disorders in both athletic and patient cohorts (areas of interest include exercise-induced asthma, laryngeal dysfunction and breathing pattern disorder), and second, to evaluate the therapeutic utility and disease modifying potential of exercise training, physical activity promotion and lifestyle interventions in people with chronic lung disease.
