Dr Oliver Price

Profile

Dr Oliver Price is an Associate Professor in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Leeds and Honorary Research Fellow in Respiratory Medicine at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. He completed doctoral research in exercise and respiratory physiology (Newcastle) and postdoctoral training in cardiovascular physiology (London), before commencing a Lectureship in Exercise Physiology and establishing the Pulmonary Exercise Physiology Research Group at Leeds – a multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by respiratory limitation and exercise intolerance.

The research group focus on five interrelated themes, including: diagnosis and management of exertional breathlessness; mechanistic understanding of exercise intolerance; design and implementation of physical activity and exercise training interventions in chronic airways disease (with particular emphasis on moderate-to-severe asthma); prevention of respiratory muscle weakness in ageing and clinical populations; and application of wearable technologies and digital biomarkers to support early detection and monitoring of lung disease.

Oliver has secured competitive funding from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and pharmaceutical industry sponsors as both principal and co-investigator – supporting a portfolio of applied, clinical and translational respiratory research, alongside early career scientific training. He is regularly invited to speak at national and international conferences and has chaired two expert task force position statements commissioned by the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), addressing the diagnosis and management of allergic and respiratory disorders in sport, and practicalities of personalised exercise prescription in the context of asthma management.

Oliver is an elected member of the EAACI Asthma Section and Chair of the EAACI Allergy, Asthma and Sport Working Group. He is a European Respiratory Society (ERS) International Research Fellowship recipient and an active member of ERS Assembly 1 (Respiratory Clinical Care and Physiology). He is also an expert member of the International Olympic Committee Respiratory Sub-Group, Associate Editor for Physiological Reports, and a steering commitee member of the Leeds Movement and Physical Activity Interdisciplinary Research Network.
