Dr Grace Roberts

Profile

As Scientific Officer in the School of Biomedical Sciences, I am responsible for the teaching of practical laboratory skills to students on the Drug Discovery MSc, as well designing and delivering teaching on a range of undergraduate modules within the school.

My interest and background is in virology, innate immunity, vaccines, and 3D cell culture models.

I obtained my PhD from the Univesity of Leeds in 2018 in the School of Molecular and Cellular biology. My PhD research focussed on Chikungunya virus, specifically the function of the non-strucutral protein 3 (nsP3) in the virus lifecycle.

After my PhD, I worked in Educational Outreach for the School of Medicine, before undertaking my first postdoctoral research position at Queen’s University Belfast in the lab of Prof Ultan Power. Here, I researched the role of respiratory syncitial virus (RSV) in relation to asthma development using primary-cell differentiated lung models. I then returned to the Unviersity of Leeds for a second postdoctoral role, researching the unique phenotype of hepatitis C virus genotype 3 in the laboratory of Prof Mark Harris.
