Nicholas Gladman

Profile

I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Liverpool, and a Visiting Research fellow at the University of Leeds, where I am investigating the biomechanics of mastication, alongside Professor Karl Bates (Liverpool) and Dr Graham Askew (Leeds). I have held previous postdoctoral roles at the University of Southern Denmark (Odense, DK), where I investigated the biomechanics of birdsong alongside Professor Coen Elemans, and the Royal Veterinary College (London, UK) where I investigated the muscle-mechanical compromise framework alongside Professor Jim Usherwood and Dr Tim West. Prior to these postdoctoral roles I worked as a research assistant at the University of Surrey (Guildford, UK), where I investigated lameness in domestic dogs alongside Dr Constanza Gomez Alvarez.

I undertook my PhD at the University of Leeds, where I investigated the mechanics and energetics of jet propulsion swimming in cuttlefish alongside Dr Graham Askew. Prior to this I completed an MRes in Animal Behaviour at the University of Nottingham, and a BSc (Hons) in Aquatic Zoology at the University of Hull.
