Leeds Sports Science is Number 1
Sports science at Leeds has been ranked 1st amongst the Russell Group universities and 3rd in the UK by the Guardians University League Table.
The good news doesn’t stop there, this year’s Guardian league table also shows an increase in the ranking for Biosciences, with us moving up 5 places from 26th to 21st. Furthermore, the university as a whole has cemented its place in the top 20 UK universities by rising 2 more places from 16th to 14th.
The league tables focus on the quality of teaching, student experience and the employability prospects for students. The Guardian states that , in an attempt to get a good, broad reflection of universities and their performance, “the guide ranks universities according to: spending per student; the student/staff ratio; graduate career prospects; what grades applicants need to get a place; a value-added score that compares students’ entry qualifications with their final degree results; and how satisfied final-year students are with their courses, based on results from the annual National Student Survey (NSS).”
This emphasis on a breadth of areas and our result is a great reflection of the work that everybody here in FBS is putting into creating the best student experience possible.
Vice-Chancellor Sir Alan Langlands said: “We want to continue to attract the brightest students, and while we know that they take many factors into consideration, such as our sector-leading curriculum, we do understand that league tables can help to profile the opportunities on offer for those applying.
“Prospective students shouldn’t rely on league tables when choosing a university; nothing beats the experience of visiting. But we are obviously delighted that Leeds is being recognised for the investment we are making in excellent student education, experience and outcomes.”
