Dr Beth Harris

Profile

I completed my MSci Biology degree at University of Bristol in 2020. I then went on to study a PhD in the School of Biological Sciences at University of Bristol in Professor Daniel Robert’s research group, graduating in 2025. I am currently conducting postdoctoral research in comparative biomechanics and mechanosensation in Dr Simon Walker’s research group.

Research interests

My PhD research centred around the role that static electricity plays in the ecology of arthropods focussing primarily on whether olfaction and electric field sensing may interact in bees in ecological contexts such as foraging. I am interested in insect sensor morphology and physiology and research that applies biophysical principles to investigate sensory mechanisms. Currently, my research focusses on insect flight performance and kinematics.
