Joe Mallalieu

Profile

I am an environmental scientist whose work bridges physical geography and ecology. I joined the School of Biology in 2026, having previously held teaching roles in the School of Geography at the University of Leeds and York St John University, followed by postdoctoral research positions at Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Birmingham. My teaching now focuses primarily on ecology and conservation, with a particular emphasis on developing students' skills in fieldwork, GIS, remote sensing and statistical analyses.

Research interests

My research focuses on glacier dynamics and the impacts of contemporary deglaciation on downstream hydrology, ecology and communities. This work is inherently interdisciplinary, spanning the physical and ecological sciences, and I am always happy to discuss potential collaborations and research partnerships.
