Sports medicine expert joins Leeds

Leeds is continuing to strengthen its reputation as a leading institution in Sport and Exercise Medicine with the appointment of a new visiting professor.

The faculty has welcomed Professor Carles Pedret as Visiting Professor in Sport and Exercise Medicine within the School of Biomedical Sciences.

Career highlights

Professor Pedret is internationally recognised for his expertise in muscle injuries and musculoskeletal ultrasound, with a career spanning elite professional sport, clinical leadership and academic research. His work has shaped contemporary approaches to the diagnosis, classification and management of muscle injuries, particularly calf injuries, and has influenced practice across elite sport worldwide.

He is a consultant in the Sports Medicine and Imaging department at Clínica Diagonal in Barcelona, and also works as an external assessor for professional sports teams. Over many years he has combined frontline clinical practice alongside publishing his research work, contributing significantly to the scientific literature in sports medicine and muscle injury imaging.

Academic contributions

At Leeds, Professor Pedret will contribute to teaching and academic development within the MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine and the PGCert in MSK Ultrasound.

He is recognised for his ability to translate complex clinical knowledge into innovative and accessible teaching, as well as his dedication to mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals.
