Professor Dave Lewis wins Elizabeth Davis Teaching Excellence Award
The University of Leeds is delighted to announce that Professor Dave Lewis from our School of Biomedical Sciences has been awarded the Elizabeth Davis Teaching Excellence Award.
This award recognises sustained excellence, leadership, and innovation in pharmacology education. Dave’s work exemplifies these values through his leadership in enquiry‑based and capstone‑style curricula, authentic assessment, and professional education spanning academic and research contexts.
Through his roles within International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (IUPHAR) and the British Pharmacological Society he has contributed to educational initiatives that support learner development across career stages and across nations, with a particular emphasis on innovative pedagogies, ethical responsibility, and supporting the transition toward non‑animal approaches within pharmacology education.
Professor Lewis said, “I am delighted and extremely honoured to receive this prestigious international award in recognition of my innovative educational activities and leadership of pharmacology education globally. It means a lot to be recognised by such a dynamic global community of inspirational and innovative educators”
Dave will be presented with the award and deliver his award lecture: 'Supporting learners personal and professional development with innovative pedagogies' at the 7th WCP IUPHAR Education Section (IUPHAR-Ed) Satellite, hosted by Monash University in Melbourne on 11–12 July 2026.
