A flexible, part-time PhD that fits around you

A part-time PhD might be your preferred route to study for many different reasons. Should you have prior commitments, for example you are already gainfully employed, or have caring or other commitments, a part-time PhD study offers an alternative method of completing your higher education. This is an exceptional option for those who simply do not have the time to commit to full-time study or are looking to upskill themselves in their already chosen field. Any degree studied part-time will take longer to complete, however with less time dedicated to learning each week your time is much more flexible. You will still have access to our cutting-edge facilities and a supervisor at the forefront of their field.

A part-time PhD as professional development while in employment

If you are employed in industry, government or civil society, you may wish to embark on a PhD on a part-time basis as advanced professional development. Typically, your research area will align with the research and development priorities of your employer. You may get 1 to 2 days a week of protected time from your employer to work on your PhD research.

Your supervisory team will typically include a stakeholder from your employing organisation and a team of two academics, who will work together to support you.

Any degree studied part-time will take longer to complete, and completion can be up to six years.
