New professor brings professional sport expertise to Leeds

A world-renowned sports rehabilitation expert has joined the University of Leeds Sports and Exercise Medicine programmes to inspire future sports science and medicine students.
Professor Enda King has joined the School of Biomedical Sciences as Visiting Professor of Rehabilitation, strengthening the University’s growing reputation as a hub for Sports and Exercise Medicine education.
Professor King is an internationally recognised clinician, researcher and educator, best known for his work to support elite athletes recover from injury and return to peak performance. Professor King has worked with a number of high-profile athletes from Premier League football, the NBA, NFL, Premiership Rugby, UFC and AFL.
He is currently Head of Elite Performance and Development at Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Doha. Before joining Aspetar, he played a leading role at the Sports Surgery Clinic in Dublin, helping to develop technology-enabled rehabilitation pathways. His approach combines biomechanics, advanced imaging and collaborative care to help athletes and everyday patients achieve the best possible outcomes.
With a PhD in 3D Biomechanics after ACL Reconstruction and an MSc in Manipulative Therapy, Professor King’s research focuses on areas such as athletic groin pain, biomechanical analysis after ACL surgery and how biomechanics can be used to improve rehabilitation and performance.
Raising the bar in sports and exercise education
Leeds is already rated in the top 100 in the world for sports-related subjects, according to QS World University Rankings 2025. Enda King will be sharing his expertise across the University’s specialist programmes in Sport and Exercise Medicine, including teaching on the MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine, Postgraduate Certificate in Musculoskeletal Medicine and a range of continuing professional development (CPD) courses.
These programmes combine the latest research with hands-on clinical teaching and mentorship, giving students and professionals the skills to work at the highest levels of sport and healthcare.
The MSc equips students with the clinical, academic and research skills to work at the highest levels of sport and healthcare, giving students the opportunity to undertake hands-on learning whilst applying the latest scientific evidence. The PG Cert offers targeted, practice-based training for clinicians wanting to expand their skills in musculoskeletal assessment and management, while the CPD courses provide flexible learning opportunities for healthcare professionals at all stages of their careers.
Professor Enda King doesn’t just lead, he brings people with him. Our students will be learning from someone who has worked at the very highest levels of global sport, and his appointment is a significant milestone in our commitment to delivering outstanding education and research in Sport and Exercise Medicine.
