Dr Carly Day joins growing team of experts in Sport and Exercise Medicine
Leeds is continuing to strengthen its reputation as a leading institution in Sport and Exercise Medicine with the appointment of a new visiting professor.
The faculty welcomes Dr Carly Day, President of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM), as a Visiting Clinical Professor in Sport and Exercise Medicine within the Faculty of Biological Sciences.

Dr Day is currently Head Team Physician for Purdue Athletics in the United States, where she oversees medical care for more than 500 student-athletes. She also holds a faculty role at Purdue University’s Department of Health and Kinesiology and teaches in the graduate athletic training programme.
Her previous roles include Head Primary Care Physician at Notre Dame College in Ohio and Clinical Associate Professor at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. She graduated summa cum laude (with the highest honour) in zoology from Miami University, earned her medical degree at the University of Virginia, and completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation followed by a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Utah.
Dr Day also serves as a team physician for the United States U-20 women’s national soccer team.
Academic contributions
Dr Day’s research interests include athlete health, gender and racial diversity in sports medicine, and interdisciplinary clinical teamwork.
As Visiting Clinical Professor, she will also be contributing to postgraduate teaching on the MSc Sport and Exercise Medicine programme and supporting collaborative research initiatives. Her appointment adds a high profile, international perspective to the programme’s clinical and academic delivery.

Dr Day joins recently appointed Professor Enda King in contributing to the University’s strong team of global academic and clinical experts.
We are delighted to have Dr Carly Day join us at the University of Leeds. She is passionate about education and sports medicine as a speciality and her warm, supportive nature aligns strongly with our own approach at the University of Leeds with our students. We look forward to her sharing her extensive sports medicine experience with our students and alumni, and also to collaborating with Carly and Purdue University to continue to develop our international partnerships.
